Nomination Tips

By giving detailed examples of how your nominee excels in each award criteria, you can help the selection committee better understand why your nominee should be considered for the award.

 

OUTSTANDING STAFF AND OUTSTANDING TEAM AWARDS

Customer Service:  Demonstrates customer service that is consistently outstanding and frequently outside the normal scope of prescribed duties.

 

EXAMPLES

  • Demonstrates extraordinary commitment by continuously providing excellent customer service beyond the usual roles and responsibilities
  • Performs “Above and Beyond” what is required by their position description
  • Accepts special projects, and/or takes on additional responsibilities in order to serve our customers

 

Leadership:    Inspires others to excel and follow their example. 

  

EXAMPLES

  • Motivates and inspires people around them to accomplish more than they would have normally
  • Inspires high level commitment from others when taking on new initiatives
  • Actively shares responsibility, authority, information, and credit when working toward goals
  • Sets a high standard of integrity by leading through example and maintains personal standards

 

Initiative:  Improves the value of services and creates efficiencies to the work performed.  Encourages and provides new ideas, creativity, and constructive suggestions.  Facilitates, supports, and/or leads continuous improvement initiatives.  Exhibits actions and resourcefulness while exercising good judgment.

 

EXAMPLES

  • Encourages innovative solutions to practical problems
  • Makes meaningful changes to improve established processes to create value
  • Acts independently when appropriate
  • Actively pursues or initiates projects for the benefit of their area, department, division and/or the University

 

Responsible Stewardship:  Engages in responsible stewardship of financial, environmental, and people resources.

 

EXAMPLES

  • Encourages financial responsibility of university resources
  • Effectively makes timely and productive decisions and uses resources wisely
  • Promotes a collaborative work environment
  • Promotes sustainable practices into their workplace

  

RESPECT AWARD

Respect:  Welcomes, includes, and demonstrates respect for individuals from all groups, including the various characteristics of persons in our community.

 

EXAMPLES

  • Responsibility - Takes responsibility for their own actions and words
  • Equality - Approaches people as their equal
  • Sensitivity - Treats people as they would like to be treated
  • Praise – Thanks others and recognizes good deeds
  • Education - Looks for opportunities to learn new things
  • Courtesy - Practices cordiality and tact.
  • Trust - Does what they say

 

 

VISIONARY AWARD

 Leadership:  Visionary leadership and demonstrated success in advancing the mission of the division.

  

EXAMPLES

  • Motivates and inspires people around them to accomplish more than they would have normally
  • Inspires high level commitment from others when taking on new initiatives
  • Creates a compelling vision for the future and helps others to understand their role in achieving it
  • Actively shares responsibility, authority, information, and credit when working toward goals
  • Takes prompt decisive action to resolve issues quickly and effectively
  • Communicates in a manner which is straightforward, honorable and open
  • Sets a high standard of integrity by leading through example and maintains personal standards

 

Other Considerations:  This may include additional information and attachments to support this recommendation.  For example, internal and/or external customer statements or staff member statements that support this recommendation.  In addition, information on the individual(s) achievement and/or contribution to division goals and performance measures that advance the university mission may also be provided.
